When do mobile shoppers use their phones before a store visit?
A special thanks to Maxymiser for sharing this great stat on how mobile shoppers use their smartphones before they visit a store.
In particular, this chart does a great job at showing exactly when the smartphone is used before the store visit.
mShopper’s Takeaway: For the vast majority of shopping scenarios, phones are used within 24 hours of the visit. Further, almost 60% of shoppers report using the phone either on their way to the store, or actually in the store.
Marketing Implications: Wow, first of all, store owners have a great opportunity to help the shopper before they visit, hopefully providing data to increase their order value (example: send a promo code for Buy-3-get one free, etc, via SMS Marketing). And once shoppers arrive, store owners should encourage shoppers to use their phones to access helping shopping info (like product videos) or promo code. QR codes are one example of this.
Second, the competitors to that store owner have a chance to convince a shopper that they can either go to another store, or better yet, buy instantly from their phone and save a visit. Of course, for this last scenario to happen, the retailer’s store must be optimized for mobile phones.
