What Are the Three Keys to Having a Great Mobile Retail Holiday Sales Season?
Optimize, Mobilize and Engage! Of course.
Think about it; they are the three key steps to successful customer interaction with your mobile site.
When someone is in a hurry (especially during the holidays), they want to find something quickly, they want to navigate quickly, and if they drop off or get cut off for some reason, the want you to kindly follow up with them and help them make a choice. Maybe even make them an offer to make the decision easier.
So, to make sure customers can find what they want, they need a fast page-load with big photos. Smartphone users, in particular, want to be able to SEE a product. On smaller screen sizes, that can be a problem. And, bigger photos that are meant for a desktop e-commerce site, are big and take a while to load. When you can lose 57% of your customers if a page takes longer than five seconds to download, and another 7% will bounce every second, you have dilemma, right?
Cache as Cache Can and Increase Performance
Using a Content Delivery Network (CDN) can cache these photos and rapidly deploy them in tenths, even hundredths, of a
second. Check your site using Google SiteSpeed, Akamai or Pingdom. If you’re having poor page-loads of over five seconds, you need a CDN.
There are a number of CDNs out there today, but mShopper offers one as a feature of the mStore. You just load your image URLs into our Master Control Dashboard (MCD) and we handle the rest. If you’re like our customers, you’ll see a 30% to 40% improvement without any loss of bits to the image.
Next, analyze your mobile traffic
Many retailers have higher conversion rates with tablet shoppers than with desktop shoppers. So, instead of redirecting 100%, try just 10%. First test to see which tablets are converting the best (data says iPads) and see what the analytics show. Then commit.
You may find Amazon’s Kindle Fire users prefer our mobile-optimized flexible design, while users of Microsoft laptop-like Surface tablet prefer the standard desktop site.
Overall, our experience suggests that our mStore conversion rates significantly exceed standard conversion rates for all tablet and smartphone devices, but mShopper gives you the control to decide what’s best for your store.
So, now you have shoppers coming to your mobile store and navigating through. You’ve optimized your traffic to convert the highest percentage of your traffic. But, wait. What’s wrong with your cart conversions??
Re-Engage with Your Cart Abandons – the Impatient Ones
For these guys, instant coffee isn’t fast enough. The data show that when users give you their mobile numbers, they become your best customers. They want you to send them deals. They want to be treated to special events. But what happens when they leave the cart mid-stream?
Remind them; Gently at first.
Best practices dictate that you follow up between 45 minutes and three hours (depending on time of day) and ask them if they wanted to complete their transaction and offer them a promo code. The second follow up text should be sent within 3 days with a discount offer, and the final text should go out a week later granting them a time-based discount.
Again, all of the follow-up can be conducted from within the mStore MCD making it a painless task that delivers a serious return.
