State of the mobile web
Thanks to Karen McGrane for compiling a giant list of recent mobile web stats –and their sources–on her blog. Lots come from Google who has taken a very prominent stance on mobile in the last 12 months. (Why the recent interest? They reported that their Mobile CPCs are falling while mobile searches are growing – two very scary trends financially for the search giant).
mShopper’s Top 4 favorites are:
- 1. Google reports that only 21% of large advertisers have a mobile-optimized website. (Really guys? 79% of larger advertisers are still pissing off their mobile shoppers?)
- 2. 77% of mobile searches take place at home or work, only 17% on-the-go, according to Google (Mobile is a misnomer for how people are using their phones!)
- 3. 50% of teen smartphone owners aged 12-17 and 45% of young adults aged 18-24 say they use the internet mostly on their mobile phone. (Wow, if you sell to these two groups, they are mostly surfing the web from their phones!)
- 4. McKinsey estimates that 2 to 3 billion people will come online globally through the mobile internet over the next decade (Wow!)
