Say What? You’re Not Fixing Mobile Before The Holidays?!
As a consumer, I’m insulted. I have 5 kids, 3 jobs and am busy beyond belief. When I have a minute while on the go, I try to get a purchase done here and there, especially when a birthday is around the corner (there are a lot in my house) and with the holiday season fast approaching. Or, I get an email for a flash sale, open it on my phone and want to buy…
Yet, so many of the businesses that I patronize online, still have poor mobile experiences. Even worse, it sounds like they don’t even care!
In this article today on MediaPost, it states that “strong mobile commerce infrastructure remains many retailers’ top competitive weakness heading into the 2014 holiday season”, but 2/3 of the of the respondents aren’t going to do anything about it prior to the holiday season. (Source: http://www.mediapost.com/publications/article/234644/despite-mobile-revs-retailers-lack-mobile-ecommer.html)
1) e-tailers admitting they are willing to throw away guaranteed money because “it’s more difficult for retailers to allocate technology and resources to mobile ecommerce, because they see an easier and more immediate benefit from other strategies…”
2) e-tailers admitting they don’t really care about their mobile (loyal) shoppers.
We at mShopper are quite shocked at this revelation and would like to adamantly point out that going mobile doesn’t require extensive technology and resources…if they only knew that there were simpler solutions like ours. In a recent study of Usability and Brand Loyalty, Compuware found that 57 percent of mobile users wouldn’t recommend a business with a non-mobile site, while 40 percent will leave and switch to a competitor with a mobile-optimized site.
Are they missing something?
It is still completely possible to go live, with a high-performing mobile store, prior to the holiday season with little financial, human resource or technology investment.
Please help us reach these companies so we, as consumers, can have better mobile shopping experiences this holiday season and beyond.
It’s 2014, for goodness sake! We should be able to order, with ease, from any website, at any time of day, on any and every device we use!
That’s really not much to ask for considering all of the technology readily available to e-tailers. They (you?) can easily convert their traditional desktop e-commerce store to a mobile-optimized one…with just a product data feed (that probably comes right out of the box of your current e-commerce platform) and some trivial configuration.
