The Power of Data Feeds for Mobile Stores
Wouldn’t it be amazing if you could launch a mobile e-commerce store with just a single product file? Imagine uploading a product file and then having a world-class mStore created instantly? No design, development, QA, versioning, set up costs…You’d be live instantly, save months and tens of thousands of dollars, and start capturing all those lost mobile sales. Ahh, one can dream…but it’s not a dream when you use mShopper.
The reason to use a data feed
Having the ability to list all one’s products and their respective descriptions, attributes, variations, images (and whatever else you want your shoppers to know about the product) in a single editable file and then use that file to create an mStore is such a powerful feature, we often wonder why more vendors don’t offer it. But they don’t, and mShopper does!
We are so proud to have such a robust feature at the forefront of our technology, and having this ability gives mShopper clients the power to launch and scale faster than any other mobile commerce platform. This is also why we proudly boast that our clients experience the best mobile ROI’s in the business.
The file I’ve described above is commonly called a “data feed” and it is what powers a majority of mStores in mShopper’s network. It can be as simple as your current Google Base feed, your existing data feed provider’s feed, or your own Excel or common separated value (csv) file loaded on a server that is intermittently accessed to check for changes and easily editable but “non-techies”.
Data feed usage examples
Let’s give some solid examples of just how time-saving and effective using a data feed for your mobile store can be:
1) Ever had to change hundreds of images in your e-commerce store because you’ve decided to go with a CDN or other third party image hosting site? Using a data feed, you can do a quick “find and replace” to change all the urls in one fell swoop. And even if you can’t do that, using a data feed here is much easier than having to go into a software interface and change one product record at a time.
2) Speaking of batch changes…updating prices (including having sale prices) is a breeze. Again, you could do a batch “find and replace” if you, say, want to change everything that is the same price to a lower price, or, you can fly through a spreadsheet and update them by hand. Further, just save a copy of the original data feed and the new data feed so you can revert pricing at any time (by either changing the data feed or just doing a vlookup replacement).
3) It’s really all about the batch changes…like adding new products. Which would you rather do, log into software and enter all the product fields one at a time on a page (don’t forget to click save), or blast through a spreadsheet line by line adding products in droves (with a Ctrl+S or Cmd+S here and there). As an experienced power software user, I can tell you hands down that moving through a spreadsheet is going to be exponentially faster than product management in 99% of all e-commerce software out there.
4) And aside from the incredible effectiveness of data feeds to power your mStore, you can also easily (really, really easily) re-purpose that data feed in popular shopping engines to gain even more exposure to your entire product line.
The examples above should help you realize the extensive effectiveness and time savings using a product data feed will provide. And you don’t have to do this alone. We can recommend multiple data feed providers who can help you create and manage an optimized data feed that works with both, mShopper and shopping comparison engines.
Alternatively, If you, or anyone on your team, is even mildly proficient with spreadsheets (what organization doesn’t have at least one Excel master these days), they’ll most certainly love the flexibility and speed of using a data feed.
